TURNIPS
I have only lately discovered turnips as a delicious side dish. Small, fresh ones are best, of course. Peel the turnips – they are a root vegetable and roots produce an alkaloid which protect them from bugs and wildlife . Slice them into 1/4”rounds and sauté them in a bit of olive oil.
Add a few cloves of garlic, if you want, and salt & pepper. Cook them until they begin to caramelize a bit. If turnip greens are included in your purchase, wash them well, cut them up, and add them to the pan once the turnips are almost done.
